Happy 2nd Year Anniversary! HAAZZZAA!

On the first day of our third year in business we have so much to reflect on and be thankful for.

We have sold everything in our original collection that we launched and since then, have gone through three different other collections.

We have attended over 40 shows, vending and paddling our wears and felt welcomed, respected and valued each time by the wonderful performing community in Vancouver.

We have expanded our studio space to double its size.

We have sent our clothes and headpieces to Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Us, Canada, France, Thailand and China!

Over the last two years we have up-cycled hundreds of abandoned and dusty belts, hair clips, trims, second hand pieces of clothing, feathers from masks and wreaths and have untangled hundreds of custom jewelry of all kinds and makes. The results? Pieces that have been one of a kind and loved by performers that have been just as unique and memorable.

What is in store for Scheherazade Banoo?

We hope to move into our own studio space in the coming new year.

We hope to Streamline and focus our clothing collection in two areas only - Belly dance pants and Flamenco skirts.

We will also continue to make headdresses and hair clips as they are a joy to create and seem to have found their own unique niche market.

We will be attending more and more photo shoots, fashion shows and will continue to work with many more talented local photographers, make up artists and stylists.

But at the end of it all? I, Farnaz, the dreamer, am blessed to see my dream come true. As I find the time between keeping a family of 5 happy and thriving, I look forward to every moment I spend in our studio, creating and manifesting ideas and concepts.

Our maker, Jila, having found a new lease on life after her stroke, continues to inspire by bringing her calm aura and her endless resilience and cleverness to our studio, every single day. She is my work partner and my mom and I love her dearly and for her smile? Its all worth it.

Its going to be a lovely 3rd year, we can feel it! We hope many years from now, we look back at this day and think ... wow, what a journey! And it has all been worth it.

Thank you to every performer who joined us in our launch party. It still remains one of our best memories - ever!

And thank you of course for your continued support and love,
Farnaz and Jila

Inspiration board 4

I love Moria Chappell for her gorgeous styling and her commitment to working authentic traditional Indian dance movements into her craft.

I adore watching Zoe Jakes because of her quirkiness and her bad ass aura and of course the "beats antique".

Kami Liddle is so lovely in her technique and clean lines.

And Sharon Kihara - the first DVD I bought was from her, her tattoos alone have kept me admiring her. Her unique look and style of dance is truly her own.

Needless to say, I don't have a favourite among these beauties. Do you?

Kids dress up clothes

It has now been a while that we have been contemplating adding children's dress up clothes to our collection. What kiddlet doesn't like dressing up?

When I was little, I used to make anything I could find into a dress up outfit. A frayed abandoned pillow case was my long long hair and I would pin it to my hair and would spend hours "brushing" it ... or my mom's aprons, loved wearing them with the chords in all kinds of different ways and then twirl and twirl to see if the edges would fluff up ... ahh ... memories. :)
